Leta Posey Herring, 97, of Brandon, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Leta was born April 25, 1907 in Midlothian, Texas the daughter of H. H. and Itylene Moore Posey. At the age of 11, she joined the Methodist church. Living in Hill County most of her life, she graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1924. She also graduated from Hillsboro College and attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She taught school in various schools in Hill County. On March 5, 1932 she married William Henry Ted Herring of Peoria. From this union was born, Dawn Marie Herring Ferguson on August 21, 1936, Posey Richard Herring on July 19, 1938, Leta Dolores Herring Snipes on November 14, 1944, and Gloria Jeanette Herring Odum on March 14, 1947. Leta was an active room mother and PTA member while her children were in school. She served as President of the Bynum and Hill County PTA?s. She taught Sunday school class at Brandon Methodist Church for many years, where she was a member. Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters and five brothers; her daughter, Dawn Ferguson on September 12, 1999; her husband, W. H. Ted Herring on January 12, 2001; and her son, Posey Richard Herring on May 8, 2004. Leta spent all of her years as a loving mother and homemaker. She was a partner in the operations of the farm she shared with her husband of 69 years. In her late years, she devoted her time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Leta Dolores Snipes of Brandon and Gloria Jeanette Odum and husband, Charles, of Lewisville; seven grandchildren, Diane Marie Ferguson of Red Oak, Charles Richard Ferguson of Red Oak, Denise Snipes Barnes and husband, Michael, of Mansfield, William Tye Snipes and wife, Mendy, of West, Charles Ted Odum of Denton, April Jeanette Odum of Denton, and Michael David Odum of Denton; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Benjamin Ferguson of Shakopee, Minnesota, Katherine Nichole Barnes of Mansfield, and Christopher Michael Barnes of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews.
