Born in Electra, Texas on October 17, 1924, she was the daughter of Charlie and Mettie Marshall. She married her sweetheart, AJ Henning, on September 15, 1943. They had 57 years of faith, love, adventure, children and grandchildren till AJ left for heaven on October 15, 2000 and promised to meet her at the Eastern Gate. Unexpectedly, God blessed her with another husband for three wonderful years, Ed Sellers, whom she married in 2002.
Letrice, also known as Aunt LeeLee and Mama Hen, grew up in the First Baptist Church, singing alto in the choir, and on the radio in a trio called The Melody Maids. She served in the nursery hugging on babies and toddlers for over 20 years, and she and AJ were leaders of the singles young adult training union and they also made thousands of red ribbons for visitors to wear. She was an accomplished speller, winning many Spelling Bees and later used that skill to work thousands of crossword puzzles. She and AJ lived briefly in Hebbronville, TX, and Goldsmith TX, before they moved with their young daughter, Sandra, to Longview TX, where Letrice ran their Little Store grocery while AJ worked and studied at LeTourneau. Ten and thirteen years later they welcomed their #1 Son, Dale, and their Critter Kid, Mark. She became PTA President of Jodie McClure School and Foster Jr. High and later served as City Council PTA President. She was also President of her Third Thursday Sewing Club for over 25 years.
When the kids were grown Letrice took a job as Activity Director for Pine Tree Lodge and Gregg Home for the Aged and brought tons of joy, adventures and projects to the elderly. Letrice and AJ learned to square dance and joined The Lucky Squares dancers in Longview and enjoyed performing and traveling with their group. Letrice was also an accomplished bicyclist and won many trophies in riding competitions. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, poet, artist, whistler and song writer. She woke up every morning with a song in her heart and on her lips. One of her favorite pastimes was playing all sorts of games all her life.
When AJ retired in 1981 after 31 years at Texas Eastman in Longview, they were ready. They had bought an Airstream and traveled many a mile from Mexico to Canada. They joined NTAC, North Texas Airstream Club, and as founding members helped build their Airstream community in Hillsboro, TX as well as their villa in the Airstream park. Both AJ and Letrice served as NTAC Presidents and hosted many a rally and planned many a program. They were featured on the Travel Channel’s “The Airstreamers”, filmed by a film crew from Australia, who followed their every move for two weeks on their way to Airstream Nationals. Letrice also served on the NTAC Board. It was at NTAC Letrice taught line dancing and took their troupe, the NTAC Steppers, to a silver medal at the Senior Olympics.
Letrice and AJ also worked on the Timing and Scoring Team on the annual coast-to-coast vintage car race, The Great American Race for 15 years. Letrice was also the official Elvis Screamer at the nostalgia concerts of Granbury Live in Granbury Texas, having attended over 1,000 concerts. Her greatest joys were her family and friends, and her greatest legacy is her Christian faith and her great attitude, always looking for God’s best in all things and all people and sharing her joy, sometimes laughing till she cried! She will meet us at the Eastern Gate!
Letrice is survived by her children and their spouses, Dale and Shery Henning, Mark and Terry Henning, and Sandi and Paul Morgan; her grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren and Justin Sanches, Kelsey and Wesley Boyd, Amber and Randy Rowe, Heather and Mike Coogle, and Tony Henning; her great-grandchildren, Lexi Bell, Austin Bell, Izzy Sanches, Evie Mae Sanches, AJ Henning, Mikayla Roach, and Kalea Roach; nieces and nephews, Paula and Jerry Vaughn, Kristi and Danny Craig, Keyton Craig, Jennifer Moore, Anita and Petar Emge, Deborah Eaton, and Mike and Melinda Gibson; her brother-in-law Gene Moore.
