Lewis Crow

Lew Crow, 74, of Arlington, a retired U.S. Navy Reserve Captain and retired American Airlines Captain peacefully passed away at his home April 4, 2013, surrounded by his children. A family visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. Following this visitation, a private graveside service for family will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.

Captain Crow was born May 2, 1938, in Hill County, Texas to Henry Eli Crow and Verna Lenora Rogers. He graduated from Whitney High School in 1956. Lew earned a football scholarship to Navarro Junior College and later to The University of New Mexico from which he graduated in 1961 with a degree in Geology. In college he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity and the Sigma Gamma Epsilon geological honorary fraternity. After college, he entered the U.S. Navy pilot training program and served five years of active duty. He was a member of various military components for 29 years, a pilot for American Airlines for 29 years, and was a decorated Viet Nam veteran. Lew was a lifetime member of the Navy Reserve Association and of the VFW. Lew Crow loved to fly and never once scratched an airplane.

After retirement, Lew adored spending time with his ten grandchildren, staying busy with their activities, and hunting and fishing with family and friends at the “Lonesome Crow” family farm. Lew loved his children and grandchildren, his country, and the great outdoors. He was faithful to us all and we are grateful that he was our father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed every day.

Lew is survived by his children Kay Beth Breaux, Chad Crow and wife Amy, and Jennifer Crow Lambert; and stepchildren John Jurkoshek and wife Kele, Tricia Jurkoshek, and Jill Cates and husband Mark. Lew is also survived by his two brothers John Crow and his wife Becky, and Barry Crow. Lew’s grandchildren are Rachael Williams, Madison and Caroline Crow, Carson and Clay Lambert, Ford and Rivers Jurkoshek, Morgan McNutt, and Dayden and Ashlyn Cates, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Lance Mandell and staff of The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and numerous friends and neighbors who have offered their love and support the past year, in particular his best friend since childhood, Jerry Ward. In memory of Lew, the family suggests blood or monetary donations be made to your local blood center, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org), or The Whitney Ex-Student Association of Whitney High School (Whitney Ex-Students’ Association Scholarship Fund P.O.
