Lillian Kay, 102, of Hillsboro died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro. Lillian was born May 30, 1906 in Fort McKavett, Texas in a wagon by a military doctor, the daughter of Marvin and Buena Alley. Her father was a Spanish-American veteran. She spent her early years in Sonora, TX, where she accompanied her parents on a cattle drive to Tampico, Mexico, where they resided for some time. She moved back to Sonora with her family until she married Ben Kay of Hubbard On March 27, 1924 in Haskell, TX. She worked at Kelly Field in San Antonio during World War II. She worked at Leonard's Department Store in Fort Worth as a bookkeeper and moved to Hillsboro in 1953. A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, she served as secretary of the Dorcas Class. She was a loyal member of the Hillsboro Chapter of Eastern Star #769 where she served as past Worthy Matron. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ben Kay on March 8, 1969; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Inez Francis and husband, Herbert, of Orlando, CA and Greta Tramel and husband, J. C., of Hillsboro; sister, Billie Lee and husband, Weldon, of Benbrook; three grandchildren, Ben Tramel of Dallas, Scarlet Karpakis and husband, George, of Pittsburg, PA, and Kay Renlund and husband, Jim, of Chico, CA; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
