Lillian Ela Gant Vinson, 89, of Whitney, passed away March 11, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Vinson was born March 4, 1919 in Hill County, Texas, the daughter of A. I. Gant and Ela Harris Gant. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1937. Lillian married Joe Bob Vinson on December 15, 1937 and they lived together for 69 years before his death. She worked in retail sales with JC Penney and Texas Dry Goods in Hillsboro before WW II and was a aircraft riveter in California during WW II. Upon returning to Texas she was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She was a teachers assistant at Whitney Schools before owning and operating Vinson's Flowers and Gifts in Whitney for many years until her bad health forced retirement at age 80. She loved her work with her many customers and friends. Mrs. Vinson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, an infant son; one brother, H. I. Gant and one sister, Ona Mae Gant Tidwell. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Robert Roby Vinson and wife, Stella of Whitney, and Harold Kenton Vinson and wife, Della of Whitney; daughter-in- law, Kaye Peters and husband, David of Lewisville; one brother, A. B. BartGant and wife, Wanda of Whitney; four grandsons, Robert Cory Vinson and wife, Tani of Kearns, Kenneth Louis Vinson and wife, Suzanne of Mansfield, Clinton Joseph Vinson and wife, Chelsea of Corinth and Ralph Medina II of Whitney; 10 great grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends.
