On the morning of January 16, 2025, at the age of 95, Lillie Fae Holloway, long-time former owner of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, passed away peacefully at Wesley House Assisted Living in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 21 at the Marshall & Marshall Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. James Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM, Tuesday prior to the service.
Lillie Fae was born in Farmersville, Texas on September 12, 1929, one of six children born to Houston H. and Mattie M. (Burnett) Stanley. The family lived on a farm and she attended Snow Hill school before graduating from Farmersville High School, where she and her twin sister, Annie Mae, were co-salutatorians.
After high school, she worked at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville, where C. E. Holloway also worked. The couple began dating and were united in marriage on June 1, 1947. They would share over 70 years together of "mostly" wedded bliss before C. E.'s passing in 2018.
On January 1, 1949, they moved to Hillsboro where C. E. joined the staff of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors. Over the years, they gradually acquired sole ownership of the business from the Marshall family. In 1967 with the opening of Marshall & Marshall in Whitney, Lillie became the office manager of that location until her retirement in 1994 after 27 years.
The couple joined First Methodist Church shortly after their arrival in Hillsboro. Lillie Fae was a very active member and for many years served as one of the coordinators of funeral meals for families of church members. In their later years, she and C. E. attended the We Were Young Once Sunday school class with many of their close friends.
She and C. E. always had a large garden and enjoyed sharing their bounty with family and friends. An excellent cook, Lillie Fae was known for her delicious garden-fresh meals. She also enjoyed canning produce from their many fruit trees. A love of animals and nature, reading and, most of all, enjoying her three grandsons, consumed the rest of her time.
Preceding her in death were her husband, C. E.; her parents; four sisters, Newell, Tollie, Annie Mae, and Shirley; and one brother, Billy. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Jan Shaw and husband, James, of Whitney, and Jackie Dumas and husband, Pat, of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Matt Dumas and wife, Sarah, of Allen, Jon Shaw and wife, Ruthie, of Robinson, and Jeff Shaw and wife, Amber, of Weatherford; five great-grandchildren, Ellie, Beckett, and Ridley Dumas, and Holly Sue and Jameson Shaw. Serving as her pall bearers will be her sons-in-law and grandsons. The family would also like to recognize the staff of Marshall & Marshall as honorary pall bearers.
Words are not enough to express the thanks for the excellent care Lillie Fae received from Monica, Susie and the staff of Wesley House were she resided for almost seven years. Also, many thanks for the loving care provided by her caregivers, Norma and Sherrie and nurse Sharon Hammond and all the staff of Alamo Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church, P.O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645 or Hill County Paw Pals, P.O. Box 1533; Hillsboro, TX 76645.
