Linda Land

Linda Land, 68, of Whitney, passed away at her residence on December 30, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Rev. Greg Johnson, First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the funeral home.

Linda was born on July 8, 1949, in Whitney, to John and Jane (Necessary) Brown and grew up and attended school in Waxahachie where she graduated. She married Jimmy Sanders and they had four children together but later divorced. In 1980, she married Jerry W. Land and together they raised four children. For 10 years she worked in various sewing rooms before becoming a cook in her Sister’s Diner where she remained for another 10 years. Due to health issues, she stopped working there and stayed home where she spoiled kids and grandbabies.

She loved cooking big meals and having family and friends come to her home to eat and play card and marble games. She was known as “Nanny” to everyone. Nanny loved to cuddle babies, read story books to them and watch cartoons with them whenever she could. She was very good at spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she will be dearly missed by everyone.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jerry Land; and a sister.

Survivors include her children, Janie Powe and husband, Walter of Marlin, Shannon Conner and husband, William of Whitney, Roger Sanders and wife, Kalishia of Whitney, and John Sanders and fiancée, Missie of Whitney; twelve grandchildren and 24 great-granchildren; brother, Johnny Brown and wife, Debbie of Houston and a sister, Wanda Sanders of Whitney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
