Lisa Michelle (Herring) Mitchell

Lisa Michelle (Herring) Mitchell of Woodway, Texas passed peacefully away from this world on January 5, 2022.   Born to George William and Patricia (Milvo) Herring on October 29, 1970, in Arlington, Texas.  She moved to Hillsboro, Texas at the age of two.  Beginning her education at Philotechnos Kindergarten, she continued her regular studies in the Hillsboro ISD.  While in school her passion was always theatre, spending much of her time enjoying work on numerous productions and UIL One Act plays, even going to the state UIL competition earning an All-Star Cast medal.  After high school she went on to earn her nursing degree from Navarro Jr. College.  Lisa began in hospital settings, Doctor’s offices and eventually, her favorite, school nurse, first at Woodway Elementary and later at Connally Middle School.

At the age of 6, Lisa was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes, which she lived with for 32 years until she received her kidney and pancreas transplant in 2008. Always so grateful for the second chance at life with organs that had been donated, she was a proud supporter of Donate Life, encouraging people to sign up as an organ donor.

When she was seven years old she was invited to go to Texas Lions Camp for Children with Diabetes which began a long association as a camper, counselor, Med staff and nurse.  TLC was a true love of her life.  To this day she has many good friends from those she met through her camp experiences.

Lisa had a zest for life, always bringing fun and joy to those she met.  She made friends easily and cherished her family, extended family and friends.  Baptized a Catholic as a baby, she went on to be confirmed, her faith journey grew as she matured and she credited the ACTS retreats for helping with that.

On a cruise in 2001 she met the love of her life, James Eric Mitchell.  They were married June 14, 2003.   They have a daughter, Meredith Mitchell, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband, daughter, her parents and two sisters, Renee Marie Fraze, and husband Jay, and Natalie Irene Meeks and husband Jason, a niece, Reagan Fraze, four nephews Garrin Fraze, Evan Fraze, Reed Meeks, and Roane Meeks.  Leaving behind are her loving in-laws, Jesse and Kathy Mitchell and their family.  Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved.
