Lobelia Humphrey

Lobelia Humphrey, 94, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of Line Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, at the funeral home.

Born February 10, 1921 in Hubbard, she was the daughter of Noel W. and Nellie G. (Brock) Brown. She moved to Irene in 1935, graduated from Irene High School, and lived there until moving to Hillsboro in 1974. On June 3, 1939, she married Joe Humphrey and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1985. For many years, she was a seamstress at Malouf Manufacturing.

Known as “Memaw” to her grandkids, she loved taking care of them as long as she was able. After she moved to the nursing home, she was known as “Granny” to everyone there. Lobelia enjoyed crocheting and making beaded necklaces for her family and friends. She was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Brenda Stephens; and great-great grandson, Dondrell Williams.

Survivors include her son, Joe Fulton Humphrey and wife, Barbara, of Palm Coast, FL; brother, William Brown and wife, Loree, of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Debbie Green, Bryan Humphrey, Sherri Green and husband, Tim, Clifford Humphrey, and Clint Humphrey; six great-grandchildren, Sandra Batson and husband, Marcus, Dexter Green, Nikki Green and fiancé, Adam, Dusty Green, Talana Green, and Arianna Phillips; three great-great grandchildren, Dauntae Batson, Travion Ephraim, and Paris Green; one step-great-great grandson, DeAnthony Betts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
