Lois G. Slough Ballew, 96, of Whitney, passed away at her residence on November 3, 2016.
A graveside service, under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, will be held
at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2016 at Gholson Cemetery in Gholson.
Lois was born on November 19, 1919, in Wortham Bend, to Robert and Mary (Killion) Slough. She was a Regular Pioneer of the Jehovah’s Witness faith. An avid gardener, she also enjoyed raising her cows, chickens and turkeys. But most of all she loved her family. She had great joy in raising her children and many of her grandchildren, enjoying family get-togethers with food and chocolate pie, and camping with them in her travel trailer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woodrow T. Ballew; infant daughter, Glenda Fay; six sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her children, Mary Katherine Yates and husband, Donny of Temple, Weldon Ballew of Ignacio, CO, Ted Ballew and wife, Francis of San Antonio, Linda Vela and husband, Henry of Dallas, Thad Ballew of Galveston and Susie McKamy of Galveston; grandchildren, Derwood Wilerson, Katherine Annette Glenn, Richard Lindsey, Michelle Greco, Vickie Huddle, Jeff Ballew, Michael Ballew, Angela Maldanado, Victoria Vela, Bill Jaehne, Chris Ballew, Retha Wooten, Candice Autrey, Clayton Stinecipher, Brenna Deleon, Hayleigh Ballew, Austin Ballew; 26 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
