Lola Faye {Robertson} Tekell was born on October 22, 1931, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Robert Lee and Mattie Mae {Keeton} Robertson. She graduated from Hillsboro High School. She was swept off her feet by Melvin Tekell. The couple eloped and married in Rockwall, Texas, on January 8, 1950. While living in Dallas, Lola worked at SW Bell as a phone operator and Melvin at a box factory. Shortly thereafter, he asked her to move back to the farm. After a couple of moves, they settled in Mansfield, Texas. They were very successful in farming and ranching, with Lola being the sole bookkeeper of the companies. Moving back to Hillsboro, they continued their work for many years. The couple had three children in their spare time. Debbie was born in 1951, Delinda in 1956, and Myrick in 1963.
Lola was a Christian and an active member of her church. She was our home's glue and bright joy growing up while teaching and living Christ’s love to us. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, and seamstress, and was always a busy bee, wearing that loving smile of hers. Lola loved boating, fishing, and water skiing. She also loved music and would dance with the mop as she cleaned. There is no doubt that her greatest joy was seeing her children and grandchildren drive up the driveway. A sweet, fun mother and grandmother, she was always ready for games, popcorn, and movies.
As her health declined, she relocated to Garland in assisted living near Delinda. Here she became a social Butterfly! Now, Faye, as she was known, chose to be Lola. Lola blossomed, enjoying each day with fun friends and outings. This social Butterfly was constantly on the go and a “killer” at Bingo and Mexican Train. The staff not only cared for Lola, but they also loved her. Special love names they called her were Lola Lola Lola, Peaches, Moma, Cheeky, Love, My Beautiful Lola, and Lola B. Her room was always a joy for them to “hide out” and chat when they could. Blessed with a long life, Lola went home with dignity and grace just as she lived her life. A beautiful soul ran to the arms of Jesus.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 66 years, Melvin Newton Tekell; 2 brothers, Robert {Bubba} Robertson and Ronnie Lynn Robertson; and a sister, Loretta {Jeannie} Walker.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Lamb and husband, Craig, of Georgetown, Texas, Delinda Wilson and husband, Larry, of Garland, Texas, and Myrick Tekell of Hillsboro, Texas; sister-in-law, Darlene Robertson of Grandview, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Emily Thomason, Seth and Amanda Hogan, Slade and Jessica Hogan, Lorean Dillard, Morgan and Ryan Burton, Haley and Luke Bloemeke, Clay Tekell, and Jared Tekell; and 9 great-grandchildren, Lexie, Brock, Cora, Lola, Cameron, Colten, Windsor, Kensington, and Abigail.
In lieu of flowers the family request a “pay it forward” in Love.
