Lorene Fredia (Lander) Markwardt

Lorene Fredia Markwardt, 98, of Malone passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Hilltop on Main in Meridian.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. John Vieths and Rev. Kevin Mau officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Lorene was born August 17, 1923, in Hill County, Texas, where she spent all her life, to Henry and Annie (Symank) Lander.  She spent her whole life doing what a farmer’s wife did and tending to the home.  A very loving and faithful Christian, Lorene was very active in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school.

Lorene was a very independent person.  She enjoyed working outdoors and taking care of her garden.  She also enjoyed quilting and sewing.  She made many of her own clothes.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wilbert Markwardt on August 11, 1979; and son, Charles Markwardt on May 10, 2013.

Survivors include her brother, Hilbert Lander and a cousin, Paul Murray.
