Lorene Jeanette Sessums was born to John Franklin Moss and Artie Edna Boatman on October 8, 1927, in Onalaska, Texas. She passed from this life on April 5,2020 while residing at Homestead Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Hillsboro. A private service will be held. Mrs. Sessums will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 5 :00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Lorene met D. D. Sessums in the piney woods of east Texas while he was hauling gravel. They married May 13, 1944, building a life together, living mostly in Hill County in their family home on Jacks Branch.  He preceded her in death in May of 1996 after 52 wonderful years together. Also preceding her in death were granddaughter, Melissa Sessums Bratton; two brothers; and a sister.

Lorene was a wonderful homemaker, awesome cook, known for her pies, especially chocolate. She was an excellent seamstress and talented quilt maker spending many happy days with the ladies at her church. She was a dedicated member of the United Pentecostal Church since 1954, devoting her life to the Lord and serving him with all her heart. For many years she was the secretary/treasurer for the church. Lorene was a blessed saint, with a beautiful voice that will be singing in God's heavenly choir.

She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Thompson and husband, R.C., Jeanette Burkhaulter and husband, Ken, and Dorris Lewis and husband, David, all of Hillsboro; one son, Delmar (Buddy) Sessums and wife, Barbara, of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Darren Thomas, Marla Harruff and husband, Chris, Darrell Sessums and wife, Heather, Justin Burkhaulter and wife, Natalie, Datha Lewis and fiancé, Mike, David Thomas, and Ryan Sessums; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grand-daughter.
