Louis Joseph Melin

Louis Melin of Waxahachie died suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his home at the lake.  He was 54.

The family will hold a private memorial on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Louis Joseph Melin was born January 6, 1968, to Charlie Joseph and Ann Frances (Manak) Melin.  He was the youngest of seven children.  Louis attended Waxahachie High School.  He was known throughout Ellis County as a skilled craftsman in the building trades.

Louis worked most of his life in construction and as a handyman who owned his own business, Melin Gutters for several years.  He was an avid fisherman and would frequently host family and friends to a “fish fry” at Lake Waxahachie.  He loved classic rock and roll and would often break into ‘karaoke’ of a favorite tune and randomly change the words to garner a laugh from his audience of friends.  Louis also had a passion for drag racing, starting as a “pit boy” for his sister Mary when he was twelve and, later racing motorcycles with his brother-in-law Mike.  The two of them were more often than not in a position to win a weekend event at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.  Louis and Mike always seemed to finish near the top and there is no shortage of trophy hardware on display for their efforts

Louis loved Kim, Skyler and Stormee and was a dedicated provider.  He took exceptional pride in his son Skyler who is serving in the U.S. Army in South Korea.  Louis will always be remembered for his unique and infectious laugh, his raucous air guitar solos and especially his desire to help others in need.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sam Melin and infant twins Eric and Aaron.

Louis is survived by wife Kim, son Skyler and daughter Stormee.  Additionally, brother Carl Melin, sister Theresa Smith and husband Chuck, sister Janie Bowling and husband George, sister Mary Hullett and brother Henry Melin are survivors.  Louis is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
