Lowell Everett Nelson passed away peacefully Saturday, September 5, 2020 surround by family following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Scotty Pelham officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
He was born on January 5, 1950, in Enid, Oklahoma, to parents Chalmers Faye (CF) Nelson and Willa Jean Campbell Nelson.
Lowell and his family moved to Whitney, Texas in 1969 and partnered to create Mohan and Nelson Photofinishing and Timing. He met the love of his life and best friend, Judy Kay Cooper, in December of 1972, and they married December 18, 1973.
Lowell was a member of the National Guard from 1970-1976 as a medic and also served as the Whitney Voluntary Fire Chief from 1984-1988. He worked for Rayburn Thomas doing custom hay baling. In his later years he worked for Blackland Hill County Implement. Lowell was well known and well respected in the farming community.
He never met a stranger and he would help anyone that he could. He loved spending time with his friends and family and he especially loved spending time on the farm and meeting the guys for coffee each morning.
Lowell was preceded in death by his father, C. F. Nelson in 2002.
Lowell leaves behind his best friend and wife, Judy Nelson; daughter, Christi Nelson and son, Chris Nelson and wife, Jacque, all of Whitney, Texas; his beloved granddaughter, Sierra Nicole Nelson of Nagshead, NC. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Nelson of Whitney; brother, David Nelson and wife, Rose of Whitey; and sister, Sharon Penney and husband, Robbie of Whitney; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his running buddy Deeks.
