Loyd Charles Baker

Loyd Charles “Charlie” Baker, age 68, passed away on February 16, 2024, at his home in Whitney, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall in Whitney, Texas.

Charlie was born on June 10, 1955, in Portsmouth, Virginia to his parents, Charles and Barbara Baker.

Charlie was a one-of-a-kind house farmer who was very rough and hard around the edges, but once you got to know him, he was a big softie. He enjoyed salt-water fishing, riding motorcycles, driving fast and classic cars, watching and going to football games and NASCAR races, and even surfing when he was younger. He loved to tell stories about sitting on the seawalls at the ocean in his younger days. As he got older, his stories evolved around his wife, Paula (or Ace, as we all knew her), their journeys and adventures, and their dogs.

Some of Charlie’s most notable projects included the Framework on President Bush’s ranch house in Crawford, Willy Nelson’s place in Carl’s Corner, the Hill County Courthouse in Hillsboro, Hill College, also in Hillsboro, and many large custom homes in Hill County and the surrounding areas.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Paula ‘Ace’ Baker and his parents.

Although he did not have any children of his own, he is survived by his self-claimed son, Paul Bright, of Whitney, and his 4 children and 7 grandchildren, along with many life-long and close friends he made and worked beside in Whitney.
