Loyd Murphy

Loyd W. Murphy, 78, of Whitney, passed away at his home on August 23, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Prairie Valley Baptist Church near Whitney, with Rev. Eddie Booth, officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Loyd was born on January 29, 1937, in Georgetown, to A.C, and Lela (Hill) Murphy. He went to high school in Cotton Center. In 1955, he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Pacific until 1963. In November of 1988, he married Patsy Gibson and she passed away on December 30, 1996. In September of 1966, he went to work for the Irving Fire Department and moved to Whitney in 1985, before retiring from the fire department in 1987, after 21 years of service. In June of 1997, he married JoAnne Skinner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy; and a brother, Billy Ray Murphy.

Survivors include his son, Wayne and wife, Lisa, and a granddaughter, Cori; his wife of 18 years, JoAnne, her daughter, Rita and husband, James; granddaughter, Katherine, grandsons, Zack and Nathan; brother, Melvin Murphy and wife, Lavada and Larry Murphy and wife, Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.
