Lu Jeanne Carmichael, 85, of Dallas passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, at a Plano hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 Monday, prior to service time at the funeral home.

Lu Jeanne was born on August 22, 1929 in Hillsboro to Homer Lee and John L. (Byars) Alldredge. She grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School. While attending Hill Junior College, she met her future husband, John D. Carmichael. The couple was married on February 3, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Lu Jeanne received her degree from North Texas State University and taught for a time in Waco and Midland. John was employed with Sun Oil Company and the couple moved frequently during their early years. After 5 years in Midland, they made several stops in Louisiana and south Texas before moving to Dallas in 1977.

A founding member of the St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano, Lu Jeanne was very active in it’s bible study and lunch bunch. An avid reader of angel literature, she also loved growing flowers in her garden, especially roses. She also did a lot of volunteer work in the home economic and special education departments for the Plano ISD, specifically with Wilson Middle School.

Preceding her in death were her parents and daughter, Sherry Lee Carmichael.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John D. Carmichael of Dallas; son, Mark Carmichael and wife, Peggy, of Farmersville; two grandchildren, Stephani Cannon and husband, Jeff, of Melissa and John S. Carmichael and fiancé, Rachel Wilson, of McKinney; and four great-grandchildren, Blake E. Cannon, Grayson W. Cannon, Everett Mark Cannon, and Lyla Carmichael.
