Lucy Estes

Lucy Faye Estes, 86, walked into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, February, 22, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Woodbury Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Lohse, Rev. Joe Bob Boyd, and Mr. Ovie Glenn Miller officiating. Burial will follow at New Woodbury Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Lucy, the youngest child of Bess (Poppa) and Monie Wood, was born December 15, 1928 in Woodbury. She was a woman of great faith as can be attested to by the way she lived her life. On August 10, 1941, she joined the Woodbury Baptist Church and was baptized in Bennett’s stock tank at the age of 13. Lucy rejoined the Woodbury Baptist Church on May 19, 1996, when she moved back to the Woodbury Community. She never ignored someone in need and made time to volunteer work and give back to the community.

Lucy was first and foremost a mother, a job that she took seriously. Her most notable qualities were her fierce loyalty to all of her family, her charity, talents, and wisdom. Lucy was forever a student with a thirst for learning. She loved cooking, gardening, growing flowers, and oil painting and was talented at all four.

Our beloved Mother gave us a special gift before she left us, a gift that no one needs to decide how to evenly divide among three children, a gift that doesn’t need to be kept on a shelf so that it doesn’t break. Our Mother gave us the gift of faith. We’ll continue to pass along this special gift and know that she will be helping us as we continue our life journey. This is only goodbye until we meet again. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Kenneth Estes.

Those left to miss her forever are her children, Joe Rapp of Whitney, Paula Vasser and husband, Roger, of Robinson, and Dean Rapp and wife, Jay, of Grandview. Grandma and Granny, as she was affectionately known, leaves behind seven grandchildren who are blessed with many memories to pass on to sixteen great-grandchildren. Lucy also leaves behind two sisters, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the New Woodbury Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 1527, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
