Lydia Maass

Lydia A. Maass, 94, of Malone passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Mandy Brobst-Renaub officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the funeral home.

Born September 1, 1921 in Malone, Lydia was the daughter of Louis and Anna (Kaddatz) Degner. In her youth, she attended Salem Lutheran School in Malone. On November 14, 1937, she married H. O. (Sonny) Maass.

Lydia had a strong faith, loved the Lord, and was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Malone. She always put her family first and never hesitated to lend a hand to a friend. An excellent cook, no one ever left her home hungry. She was a wonderful seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her family and also worked for several sewing factories through the years. Lydia was dedicated to farm life and faithfully worked beside her husband and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; granddaughter, Kay Bailey; and two grandsons, Robert Charles Maass and Doug Strauch.

Survivors include her children, James Maass and wife, Mary Ann, of Bynum and Peggy Strauch and husband, Henry, of Whitney; three grandchildren, Nancy Boden and husband, David, of Weatherford, Donna Black and husband, Jay, of Waco, and Danny Strauch of Whitney; six great-grandchildren, Marshall Bailey, Josh Birdwell and wife, Brandi, Matthew Boden, Allison Black, Katie Black, and Tyler Black; and two great-great grandchildren, Eli and Landry Birdwell.
