Mable Ruth Dumas Cheek, 96, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Friday, December 21, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. James Patton officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. Friday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Mable was born November 22, 1916 in Duncan, OK to Lonnie Smith and Willie Loraine Dumas. She grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Texas in the 1930's. On November 20, 1935 she married William Benjamin Cheek and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1996. She worked for Irwin Insurance Agency until 1968. At that time the company sold to Marshall-Williams Insurance Agency and she retired from there in 1978. She loved to cook, sew, and garden. She was an active member of Central Christian Church and served as secretary and treasurer there.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother; and an infant sister.
Survivors include her son, Gary Cheek and wife, Sheila, of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, William Thomas Cheek and wife, Amie, of Hillsboro and Machell Cheek Plummer and husband, Darin, of Hillsboro; and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Brittany, Haylee, Brianna, Skylar, and Dale.
Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, 100 Craig St., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
