Marcelino “Marcie” Gomez, 69, of Whitney, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013, in Waco, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, with Dr. Gerald Dudley officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors inWhitney.
Marcelino was born on June 2, 1944, in Fort Worth, to the late Cecilio and Concepción (Vasquez) Gomez. He grew up in Fort Worth, and after graduating from high school, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On August 4, 1972, he married Dana West. He worked as a welder for Texas Steel in Fort Worth, and more recently, he worked as a welder of ornamental fencing. Fishing was a pastime he enjoyed in his spare time. He was a member of Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney as well as the American Legion #522.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dana Gomez of Whitney; children Toby Mossberg and husband, Robert, Tracie Rios and Teddy Rios, all of Whitney; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Louise Monsivias, Dora Govea, Cecilia Garcia and Silveria Bermejo, all of Fort Worth.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
