Born April 28, 1924 in Whitney, Marcett was the daughter of Cas Thompson and Emma Lou (Moss) Thompson. Her youth was spent in the Chatt community. Marcett started working on the farm at a young age to help support her family. At 22, she started working at the Hillsboro Textile Mill and she would continue to work there for 30 years. Marcett married the love of her life, John Henry Murphy, in 1970. After Johnny’s death in 1982, Marcett moved in with her daughter, Betty, and lived with her until her death. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, who all knew her as Nana. She loved to share her faith in God and would often tell the story of when she was saved and saw Jesus.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Henry Murphy; four brothers and four sisters; and son-in-law, Carroll Shelton.

Survivors include her three children, Betty Shelton of Lake Dallas, Jackie Halbert and wife, Gaylynn, of Hillsboro, and Linda Rios of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
