Marcheta “Keta” McClung passed away peacefully at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home on Friday, October 28, 2022.
In death, she was joined again at last with her husband, Bowers Harold McClung, Son Harold Lynn McClung, and grandson Grady Scott McClung. She will also see her parents, William Finch Wimberly and Magdelene (Mom) Gibson Wimberly as well as her brother Bill Wimberly and sister Sara Joslin.
Staying here but missing her immensely are her sister Ann Murphree of Hillsboro; grandchildren Tom and Carrie McClung of Bryan and Rachel McClung of Boerne; great-grandchildren Mark, Joshua, Sara, Zoe, Noah, and Sammie as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marcheta was born November 29, 1926, in Brandon, Texas, to William Finch Sr. and Oral Magdelene (Gibson) Wimberly. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1943. She married Harold McClung of Hillsboro on January 11, 1945. She worked for Texas Power and Light, retiring after 40 years of service as a cashier and then as a secretary and bookkeeper. The McClungs joined Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and later a secretary and financial recorder.
Though she went by Marcheta or even Keta, she was the epitome of her first name, Grace. She was well-known and loved by her family primarily for her gentle laugh and kind spirit, but also for her fried chicken, her homemade biscuits, her casseroles, and her desserts!
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Tom McClung officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church, P.O. Box 263 Hillsboro, Texas 76645.
