Margaret Buie

Margaret A. Buie, 99, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019. Margaret was interred in Hillcrest Garden of Memory in a private family service.

Margaret was born January 15, 1920 in Irene, Texas and was the daughter of T.C. and Hettie (Mason) Stell. Margaret graduated from Irene High School as valedictorian of her class. While in high school she played on the school’s legendary championship basketball teams of the mid 1930's. Afterwards, she received a degree in fine arts at the University of North Texas in Denton. In 1944 she was united in marriage to Dr. James Morgan Buie and together raised two children, Scott and Ellen, in Whitney and Hillsboro, Texas.

Margaret was an avid professional artist and taught fine arts in public schools in Charleston, West Virginia and Levelland, Kerens, and San Antonio, Texas. She was active in community improvement and educational projects in Hillsboro and Hill county. Margaret was a dedicated member of the Laguna Park Church of Christ.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Hallie Bob and infant brother, George.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Scott Buie and wife, Karen; daughter, Ellen Niewyk and husband, Dr. Donald Niewyk; grandsons, Scotty Buie and Dr. John Morgan Buie and wife, Dr. Amanda Buie; and numerous beloved extended family members.

Memorial donations may be made to Attn: Buie Family Endowment, Buie Family Scholarship, Hill College Office of Development, 112 Lamar Dr. Hillsboro, Texas 76645. The scholarship assists nursing and fine arts students.
