Margaret Maw Louise Freeman, 74, of Houston passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, March 20, 2011.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the funeral home.


Margaret was born November 6, 1936 in Aquilla, daughter of the late Eddie Vernon and Mildred Louise (Qualls) Meredith. She grew up in Hill County and moved to Galveston as a child. On August 18, 1952 she married Robert Lee Freeman in Galveston. Over the years, the family lived in both Galveston and Hillsboro. After retirement, they settled in Hillsboro in 1994 until moving to Houston three years ago to be near their daughter.


She loved to cook for family and friends. An avid reader, Margaret also enjoyed doing crafts, especially crocheting and needlepoint. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where she was active in the choir and was a member of the Dorcas Circle.


Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Robert Freeman, of Houston; three children, Roberta Martin and husband, Rick, of Dickinson, Eddie Freeman and wife, Debbie, of Sherman, and Peggy Dodds and husband, Mike, of Houston; sisters, Peggy VanNess and late husband, Royce, Barbara Henderson and husband, Russell, Joyce Hardung and husband, Fred, Ruth Minker and husband, Richard, Bobby Lantroop and husband, Garth, Betty Waits and late husband, Bill, and Martha Nell Stucker; brother-in-law, James Freeman and wife, Jan; six grandchildren, April Self, Michelle McLaren and husband, Lynn, Shelley Jones, Gene Paul Fivel, Justin Freeman, and Robert Martin and wife, Jessica; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving friends.


Pallbearers will be Gene Fivel, Bobby Brumlow, Justin Freeman, Johnny Freeman, Lynn McLaren, and Jeff Messer.
