On Sunday, February 19, 2017, Margaret Ann Kelly, 83, long time resident of Whitney, TX, passed from this life to reunite with her husband Staff Sergeant Gilbert L. Kelly. A rosary service will be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Ouseph Thekkumthala officiating. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park.
Margaret was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 5, 1933, she was one of seven children to George and Edith Kelley. On February 28, 1958, she married Gilbert L Kelly in Santa Ana, CA. Together they raised three children in Whitney. Margaret returned to college and graduated August 1982 from Tarleton State University having obtained a Bachelor of Science with focus on education. She taught first grade for 17 years at St Mary’s Catholic School in Waco. She moved to Tomball, TX in 2013, became active in Senior Circle, at St Anne’s Catholic Church of Tomball, and at the community center where she taught crochet. Aside from spending time with her children, grand-children and great grand-children, Margaret loved to travel and see new things, read, crochet, garden and watch Wheel of Fortune.
Margaret was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Lenore Peterson of California, Dorothy Mueller of South Carolina, Gene Kelley of Nebraska and Mary Dale and George Kelley both of Virginia.
She is survived by her children Gilbert L. Kelly and wife, Cheryl of Newnan, GA, Patricia A. Thompson and husband, Rodney of Mabel, MN, and Lisa V. Harmeyer and husband, Ron of Houston, TX; and her brother, Robert Kelley of North Carolina. She is also lovingly remembered by her 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
