Margaret Nell Mitchell, 84, of Odessa, passed away October 29, 2008 at home. Visitation will be 9:30am-10:30am at Marshall & Marshall Funeral home in Hillsboro, Texas on November 1. Services will follow at 11:00am, November 1, 2008 at the Brandon Cemetery with Rev. Edward Sumrall officiating. A memorial service will follow on Novermber 7 at 2:00pm at 1st Presbyterian Church in Odessa, TX. Margaret was born August 13, 1924, the youngest of three children in Bynum, Texas to George Millard and Clydie Mae Frazier Millard. She was a very successful basketball player at Bynum High School and graduated in 1941. Margaret graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelors degree in nutrition and from Texas Christian University with a Masters degree in education. Margaret married Harry Lee Mitchell August 31, 1951. She taught fifth grade in Texas City, Texas for 6 years prior to moving to Odessa, where she taught fifth grade at Alamo Elementary school for 15 years and at Travis Elementary School for 4 years. She retired from the Ector County Independent School Districh in 1985. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and had been a member of St. Paul Presbyterian church before it closed. She was a lifetime member of the PTA. Margaret was very involved with her grandchildren, and sewed Halloween costumes and Christmas outfits for them every year. She enjoyed traveling and fishing at the family farm in Bynum. She was preceded in death by her parents. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 57 years; and children Stan Mitchell and wife, Nancy of Waco, TX and Greg Mitchell and wife, Patti of Midland, TX; brother George Millard and wife Lopey of Bynum, TX; sister Nora McMahan of Junction, TX; grandchildren Liz Mitchell, of Quincy, MA; Amanda Potts and her husband Matt of Austin, TX; Jones Mitchell of Brownsville, TX; and Katy Mitchell, of Midland, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Children's Home and Services, PO Box 140888, Austin, TX 78714.
