Margaret Taylor


Margaret was the daughter of Joseph Wilson and Ethel May Graff Chrisman. Her family moved to Covington, where she attended school until her final year. She received her high school diploma from Hillsboro High School, then continued her education at Hillsboro Junior College and North Texas State University. After beginning her teaching career at Hope School near Hubbard and later teaching at Parker and Aquilla, she began her career with the City of Hillsboro in 1931. She worked with the City Secretary and Mayor and was responsible for payroll, records, and dispatching for the Hillsboro Police Department. On June 29, 1947, she married C. W. "Crispy" Taylor, continuing to work for the City, a model of efficiency, personal dedication, and service to her community throughout her 47 year career with the City of Hillsboro until her retirement in 1978. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband C.W. on January 27, 1975, sister, Leita Chrisman Hatcher, and brother John Ogden Caruthers. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro where she belonged to the Parlor Class and Women of the Church. Margaret was also a longtime member of the Business Women's Club of Hillsboro. Survivors include; nephew Dr. Robert Hatcher and wife Carol of Harlingen; nieces Linda Ferguson of Waco and Paula Harper of El Paso; cousins Virginia Thomas of Tallahassee, FL and Janie C. Baker of Itasca; and several great nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to : First Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 635 Hillsboro, TX 76645
