Margaret Willett

Margaret Willett passed away at the Legends of Hillsboro on August 17, 2014 at the age of 98.

Funeral sevices for Margaret Cliett Willett are scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Peoria Cemetery. Rev. Zoltan Kelemen and Rev. Joe Bob Boyd will officiate.

She was born Margaret Kathryn Cliett to Malcolm and Jessie Webb Cliett on January 14, 1916 in Peoria, Texas. On June 9, 1941, Margaret married Rev. James Cullen Willett at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Donald Cliett Willett, and her infant son James Lambert Willett. Margaret is survived by daughter Evelyn Willett Kinville.

Margaret, her husband and two children lived in many small towns in Texas and Oklahoma while Rev. Willett continued his calling as a Presbyterian minister, first in the Cumberland Church, and then for many years in the PCUS (Southern) Church. At the time of her death, Margaret was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro.

Following the death of her husband in the mid 1970's, Margaret returned to her hometown of Hillsboro to be near family and friends. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1934, and on her return to Hillsboro resumed studies at Hill College where she earned an Associate’s Degree.

As a child, Margaret discovered her love of fabrics and her aptitude for sewing. As a loving wife and mother, she used her talents to make clothes for her family. She also served the public as a seamstress, doing alterations and clothing repair.

In her last few years as her eyesight failed, Margaret had to let go of her passion for sewing. She traded some of her independence for the security of assisted living and made many new friends at The Legends. In her final days, her daughter and Providence Hospice caregivers enjoyed her will to live, her sense of humor, and many shared stories in her “tell it like it is” style. Her sweet spirit will be remembered–walking the halls singing and sharing her positive attitude and abiding faith in Christ. She touched many lives in a positive way and will be long remembered and missed by many.

Memorials may be made to Peoria Cemetery Association, PO Box 443, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
