Margie Allene Morgan Smith, 84, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at the funeral home.

Margie was born February 15, 1927 in Hill County to Benjamin and Blanche (Bruce) Morgan. On January 14, 1947 she married Barney Smith in Hill County. She spent many years raising her children and grandchildren starting in Bynum, where she helped her husband with farming in the summer and worked at Woods of Texas sewing room in the winter.

In 1962, Margie and Barney moved to a larger farm in Abbott and she began her career as a Certified Nurses Aide. She first worked at Fireside Lodge in Hillsboro and later spent many enjoyable years working at the West Community Hospital, where she was honored as the very first “Employee of The Year” in the new facility. Margie retired from nursing in 1998 and helped with the raising of her grandchildren.

During retirement, Margie enjoyed harvesting a garden every year, caring for her pets in the home along with miscellaneous strays in the neighborhood, and stopping whatever she was doing to share her time and stories with her family. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 52 years, Barney Smith, on October 1, 1998; daughter, Sherri Rene Sinkule who recently passed away on August 22, 2011; and three brothers, Wendell Morgan of Abbott, Billy Morgan of Hillsboro, and Donald Lee Morgan of Elm Mott.

Survivors include her seven children, Carolyn Taylor and husband, Trent, of Plano, Mike Smith and wife, Linda, of Lake Jackson, Richard Smith of Hillsboro, Cathye Miller and husband, Steve, of Carl’s Corner, David Smith and wife, Carolyn, of Angleton, Terri Kelm and husband, Gary, of Malone, and Tommy Smith and wife, Terry, of Whitney; son-in-law, David Sinkule of Kaufman; two brothers, Benny Morgan and Glen Morgan both of Abbott; two sisters, Pauline Etter and husband, Livy, and Mary Russell and husband, Morris, all of Abbott; sixteen grandchildren, Greg Long of The Colony, Jason Long of Dallas, Brady Smith, of Austin, Blair Smith of Houston, Jessica Saucier of Burleson, Jeff Smith of Killeen, Jennifer Roberts of Angleton, Amber Barber and Kayla Sinkule of Dallas, Jennifer Watson of Kaufman, Daryl Sinkule of Houston, Haley Kelm and Bradley Kelm of Malone, Tyler Smith of West, Brittany Smith of Hico, and Arin Dupree of Houston; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
