Maria Salinas

Maria G. Salinas, 90, of Whitney passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Father Ouseph Thekkumthala of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the funeral home with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m.

Born July 8, 1927 in Brownsville, she was the daughter of Federico and Guadalupe (Hernandez) Garcia. On August 22, 1949, Maria was united in marriage to Joe G. Salinas, Sr. and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1978. Maria loved being outdoors and working in her yard, especially taking care of her roses. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Maria was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and four children, Sandra Daughtery, Rene Salinas, Eliberto Salinas, and Johnny Salinas.

Survivors include six children, Diana Balderas of Whitney, Norma Martinez of Montezuma, KS, Hector Salinas of Victoria, Joe Salinas, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Fernando Salinas of Beeville, and Severo Salinas of Woodbury; sister, Norma Delgado of Elgin; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
