Marie Katherine Erwin, 95, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 in a Fort Worth nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Mr. Bruce Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.
Visitation has been changed to 10-11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Marie was born September 10, 1916 in Woodbury to James and Della (Bailey) McLean. She grew up in Woodbury and lived most of her life in Woodbury and Hillsboro. On March 4, 1933, with Mr. Earl Craig officiating, she married J. Weldon Erwin in Hillsboro. The couple lived in Woodbury until moving to Hillsboro in 1949.
For a number of years during the 1970's, she worked as an Avon representative. She loved to needlepoint, quilt, and was an excellent seamstress. A wonderful cook, Marie loved to have family and friends over for meals. She was a very avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
A devoted Christian and member of College Hill Church of Christ in Hillsboro, Marie was very involved in her church and loved reading her Bible. She was very instrumental over the years in leading people to Christ.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on October 16, 1997; and four siblings, Bill McLean, Scott McLean, Margaret Moore, and Dorothy Janota.
Survivors include her two children, Joseph D. Erwin of Whitney and Carol Owens of Fort Worth; 9 grandchildren, Donna Hawkins and husband, Johnny, Carolyn Martin and husband, Ronnie, Steve Erwin and wife, Nell, Jana Tyler, Lisa Khoury and husband, Jeff, Cindy Peck, Aricia Blasko and husband, Jeff, Belinda Erwin, and Donald Scott Erwin and wife, Tina; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Leora McLean of Hillsboro and Ruth Gunter of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
