Marie Griffin, 81, of Whitney, Texas passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at her residence. Marie was born June 29, 1929 in West, Texas, the daughter of William and Theresa Nors Karlik. She grew up in the West area and attended school in Aquilla. On March 23, 1963, she married Jack Weldon Griffin in Latham Springs, Texas and the couple settled in Whitney. Jack preceded her in death in 2006. Marie loved to work in her garden and tend to her yard. She and her husband, Jack also enjoyed traveling and they spent many happy times in the Davis Mountains, among other places. In her spare time she also enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Marie was a long-time member of King United Memorial Methodist Church in Whitney. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, John Hejl; two daughters Annette Hejl and Patricia Hejl; and two sisters, Lillian Machovsky and Tracy Metcalf. Survivors: her children - John Hejl of Fort Worth; Joyce Hejl of Fort Worth; Michael Hejl, and wife, Marianne of Aquilla; Nancy Zotz of Benton, AR; and step-daughter, Rhonda Mangold and husband, Glenn, of Southlake. Brother - Louis Karlik and wife, Nancy, of St. John's, Newfoundland and sister - Cecilia Helpert and husband, Billy, of Woodway. Seven grandchildren - Melonie Hejl of Aquilla; Matthew Hejl of Whitney; Paul Zotz of Benton, AR; Ryan and Jeffrey Zotz, both of Maryville, TN; and Glenn Mangold III and Colton Mangold, both of Southlake. Four Great Grandchildren - Marc Hejl, Michael Smith, Mason Hejl, and Micah Hejl. Special Friends - Glen and Virginia Lyons of Whitney.
