Marie Hill, 93 of Whitney died on September 29, 2006 at Lake Whitney Medical Center. She was the daughter of John Henry and Lila SharpHampton. Marie graduated from Whitney High School in 1931. She went to work for Community Public Service Utilities Company, working in their offices in Whitney, Clifton and Valley Mills. On December 21, 1936, she married Ansel Boyd Hill. During World War II, Marie and Boyd, along with their parents, worked in Naval Shipyards in Bremerton, Washington. Returning to Whitney in 1948, Marie and Boyd established Hill Dry Goods just as Whitney Dam and Lake Whitney were being completed. She contunied operation of the business being very dedicated to Whitney in every way. Marie was involved in civic and church affairs and sat on many committees for the betterment and beautification of Whitney. The Hills were very involved with the establishment of Whitney Hospital in the 1950's and 60's. She was a charter member of many organizations including Lake Whitney Chamber of Commerce, Lake Whitney Association, Downtown Whitney Merchants, Whitney Area Museum and Whitney Ex-Students Association. Marie was named Citizen of the Year in 1987. She loved traveling, camping, and animals, especially dogs. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was faithful member as long as health permitted. Marie resided at Park Plaza Nursing Home for the last 1 and 1/2years and considered staff and residents her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ansel Boyd Hill on January 12, 1990 and 1 sister, Ruth Keeton Survivors: Cousins Margaret Nowlin of Whitney; Darlene Halbert and husband Jodie of Whitney; Tim and Loretta Halbert and family of Whitney; Mark and Lisa Halbert and family of Whitney; Martha and Denton Yocum of Pearland; Carolyn and Jeff Fleming and family of Austin; Michael and Deborah Yocum and family of Pearland; Bill and Mary Lou Bilski of Eagle Pass; William Bilski of Eagle Pass; Janet and Joe Crider of Missouri and Wayne and Bertie Bilski and family of Eagle Pass.
