Marie Miller, 98, of Lampasas passed away on January 10, 2010. Marie was born on July 10, 1911 in China Spring; the daughter of the late Dow and Florence Landtrip Whisenant. She married Carl Miller on September 3, 1927 in Whitney, TX and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1987. Following her marriage, she lived in Fort Worth where she worked at Consolidated during World War II. They moved to Whitney in 1945 and she remained there until moving to Lampasas in 1996. After retiring from First National Bank, she worked for the City of Whitney for 10 years until she again retired at age 79. She was a wonderful seamstress and did beautiful needlework and crochet. An outstanding cook, she was known for her Italian Cream cake and German Chocolate cake. She took great pleasure in watching her grandchildren participate in athletics, attending as many events as possible. Marie was a member of First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas and formerly a member of Whitney Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, General, Irvin, and L. D. Whisenant; 4 sisters, Lee Alexander, Myrl Sawyer, Jewel Boykin , Ruby McMinn and former son-in-law, Glen Tidwell. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Backhaus and husband, Charles of Lampasas; two grandchildren, Carlton Tidwell and wife Shawn of Terrell, and Kirk Tidwell and wife Anne of Harker Heights; two great grandchildren, Britton Tidwell and Annie Tidwell of Terrell, and Danny Tidwell and Joel Tidwell of Harker Heights; extended family, Kathy and Roland Salinas of St. Louis, MO, Linda and Gary Humprey of Houston, Christian Backhaus of Simsboro, LA.; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Gene Miller and wife Dell of Whitney and sister-in-law, Neva Miller of Whitney and Boerne.
