Marilyene Davis

Marilyene Davis, 96, of Waco and formerly of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Saturday, October 22, 2016, surrounded by family at her son’s home in Waco. Graveside services will be held for family and friends at 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro with Rev. John Nader of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, October, 24, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Mary, the third of seven children, was born April 6, 1920 in Hillsboro to William and Myrtle (Hixson) Fawcett. Mary attended school in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1938. On June 21, 1939, she married Carlas Davis, beginning a long and loving marriage of 67 years that continued until his death on August 3, 2006. After marriage to Carlas in 1939, she worked at McCroy’s Department Store in Hillsboro. The onset of World War II led the newly married couple to Casper, Wyoming where Carlas served in the Air Corp and Mary worked at the PX. At the conclusion of the war, they returned to Hillsboro where they began their family. As their family grew, Mary enjoyed serving in the PTA and being active with the local community service clubs. After her children were grown, she worked with her husband in their local business, Davis Paint and Wallpaper Store, until their retirement in 1985. After her retirement, she enjoyed working and continuing to make new friendships while employed with Shells Dress Shop.

Mary greatly enjoyed her church, being a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church from the early 1960's until declining health in 2011 no longer allowed her to attend services. She enjoyed the Sunday socials and was well known for her delicious chocolate pies.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle; husband, Carlas; one sister, Maxine Bray; brothers, Walter, Harold, Jimmy and Clinton Fawcett; and one baby brother, Albert, that died shortly after birth.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Keas and husband, Gary of Woodbury; son, Dr. Larry Davis and wife, Teresa of Waco; grandchildren, Kim Graham and husband, Johnny of Woodbury, Darian Keas of Woodbury, Brandon Davis and wife, Amy of Dallas, and Jessica Reese and husband, Tom of Lancaster, PA; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Zavala and husband, Ramiro of Woodbury, Blythe Jacobs of Lancaster, PA, and James and Ellie Davis of Dallas; a great-great grandchild, Brantley; brother, Darryl Fawcett and wife, Gloria of Houston; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Fawcett of Georgetown and Bettye Fawcett of The Woodlands.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Providence Hospice of Waco, her hospice nurse, Gay Fox and hospice assistants, Carmen, Laura, Judy and special caregiver, Anquenette for their kind, loving and gentle care provided to Mary in the last months of her life. A very special thanks to her daughter-in-law, Teresa, who provided Mary endless love and attention as she passed thru the final stages of Alzheimers disease.

Memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645 or Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, TX 76710.
