Marinelle Counts

Marinelle Carpenter Counts, 89, of Arlington passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Brookdale Lake Arlington. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with Mr. Ray Triplett of Westhill Church of Christ in Cleburne officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015, at the funeral home.

Marinelle was born June 9, 1926 in Corsicana, attended Kerens Public Schools, and graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1943. Upon receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University) in 1947, she was employed with Hillsboro Independent School District where she was part of the faculty for 25 years. She taught English, Speech and her favorite-Drama. On August 27, 1954, Marinelle was united in marriage to Henry Counts and they became parents of one daughter, Cheryl, in 1956. They resided in Hillsboro until retiring in 1982 when they moved to Arlington, where they lived for fourteen years before moving to Cleburne. When Henry passed away in 2009, Marinelle moved back to Arlington to be near her family. The Church of Christ was always a focus in her life. Over the years, she was an active member of College Hill in Hillsboro, Westhill in Cleburne, and currently Pleasant Ridge in Arlington. Marinelle was a devoted, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved life, her family, and her God.

She was preceded in death by her loving and loved husband of 55 years, Henry Counts; parents, Ama and Marye Delia Carpenter; brother, Dayton Carpenter; in-laws, Clarry and Birdie Counts, Wendell and Betty Counts Davis, Kenneth and Carolyn Counts, and Modena Counts.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Counts Bailey; son-in-law, Mike Bailey; three very dear grandsons, Zach, Joel and wife, Lauren, and Michael; and a very special great-grandson, Rhett. Other survivors include Ben and Becky Counts, Angela and husband, Pat Hazelip, and nephews, Patrick, Andrew, and Philip Hazelip.
