Marshall Altom 84, of Hillsboro passed away on June 3, 2006 at Hill Regional Hospital. Marshall was born Aug. 7, 1921 in the Echo Community in Coleman, TX to David Andrew and Halley Beeler Altom. He grew up in Coleman where he graduated high school. Marshall earned both a Bachelor and Masters? degree from Hardin Simmons University. He taught science and math for many years, primarily in Garland. During World War II, he served in the United States Marines. On Dec. 17, 1988 her married Wanda Bennett in Waco. Marshall retired to Hillsboro in 1984. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cultivating and caring for the plants. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro; member of the National Rifle Assn and the Retired Teacher Assn. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alta Lee Altom on June 4, 1987; daughter, Kathy Ann Altom on July 28, 1999; his parents, one sister and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Bennett Conner Altom of Hillsboro; step-son, Jonathan Conner of Houston; brothers, Wayne Altom and wife, Cleone of Garland, Merlyn Altom and wife, Eva of Cherokee; sister-in-law, Emmer Altom of Irving and several nieces and nephews including Anita Altom of Seagoville.
