Martha Middleton Ballenger, 78, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrel Beggs of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro and Rev. W. S. Middleton, Honorably Retired Minister, of Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Martha Middleton Ballenger was born December 20, 1940, in Hillsboro, Texas to Henry Chester and Vesta Irene McDonald Middleton. She grew up on the family farm on Cobb Creek and graduated from Abbott High School in 1959. Martha attended Navarro Junior College and graduated in 1963 from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

After graduation, she worked in office management first in Dallas and then in Houston, and it was there that she met her future husband, Harley L. Ballenger. Martha and Harley were married in the Middleton home on Walnut Street in Hillsboro on January 22, 1972. They lived and worked in Houston until retiring to Jasper, and after Harley’s death in January 1995, Martha returned to Hillsboro where she lived at Allen’s Point Apartments. Martha has recently been a resident of Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro.

As a teenager, Martha made a profession of faith in Christ and joined the Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Jessie. After her return to Hillsboro, Martha has been an active member of Central Baptist Church. Martha loved sports, playing “42,” cooking, and sharing time with her family and friends.

Martha was also preceded in death by her parents; older sister, Sue Middleton; and grandson, Kenny Houck.

She is survived by a brother, Cecil Middleton of Irving; two daughters, Judy Baker and husband, Stephen of Ft. Worth and Twilla Wimmer and husband, Scott of Tampa, FL; three grandsons, Mathew Houck, Scott Wimmer, Jr., and Alexander Wimmer; two great-grandchildren, Iramarie and Keilani Wimmer; numerous cousins; and a host of friends.
