Martha Anne (Jimison) Mcwhorter

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Anne McWhorter. Martha peacefully left us on the evening of May 31st, 2024, at Hill Regional Hospital, at the age of 89. She lived a long life full of love and cherished moments. She was preceded in death by her lifelong love and husband, Gene McWhorter, as well as her beloved sisters, Janie Frances and Bobby Geneva.

Martha was a kind and gentle soul, deeply loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She dedicated over 40 years to her career as a registered nurse, earning her diploma from Scott and White. Together with her husband Gene, she lovingly raised two children, Frances Steen and Kevin McCarty, who further blessed her with many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Homestead Nursing Home in Hillsboro, Texas. Special thanks go to the aides who cared for Martha as if she were their own grandmother.

Martha had a passion for reading and could often be found with her nose in a book. She was also an avid knitter, creating beautiful blankets that became treasured gifts for family and friends, especially for new babies. Many of those who received her knitted blankets hold them dear, as tokens of her love and care.

Family gatherings and holidays were always made special by Martha's cherry cream cheese pie, a treat her grandchildren would eagerly vie for. This cherished tradition lives on through her children and grandchildren, who continue to make her signature pie, now sweeter and more special in her memory.

Martha is survived by her children, grandchildren, and her brother, Wayne Jimison. While no services are planned at this time, her ashes will be reunited with those of her husband Gene and her sister Janie, to be laid to rest together.

As we remember Martha, let us cherish the love and warmth she brought into our lives. Her gentle spirit and kind heart will forever remain in our memories. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, care, and kindness will continue to inspire us every day. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones, and forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
