Martha Marie Jackson Young, 85, of Victoria passed away Friday September 2, 2011 at Twin Pines Nursing Home in Victoria. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Richland Cemetery in Mertens with Rev. Ray Miller of First Baptist Church of Mertens officiating.
Martha was born September 16, 1925 in Stamford, Texas, the youngest daughter of pioneer merchant James Edward Jackson and Sallie Olivia (Rutherford) Jackson.
She graduated from Stamford High School in May 1942 and married Noble J. “Shug” Young in Post, Texas in October. After the war, they lived in several Texas towns before settling in Snyder in 1957 where Noble managed the local airport until 1983.
Following retirement, they returned to Stamford where they resided until his death in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward and Sallie Jackson of Stamford; two brothers and one sister, James Edward “JE” Jackson, Jessie Granville “Buddy” Jackson, and Margie McDonald, all of Abilene.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Noble Bryant Young and Marjorie of Victoria; two grandsons, Stephen Wayne Daugherty of Kerrville and Carl Daugherty and wife, Diane, of Sealy; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper Edward and Emma Ruth Daugherty also of Sealy.
