Martin Mendez, age 57, of Whitney passed away Friday, February 12, 2021, and Ruby Mendez, age 60, of Whitney, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021, in Waco. A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro with Pastor Alfredo Montes officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2021, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Facial masks and social distancing are required.
Martin Mendez was born March 13, 1963 in Taft, TX. His family moved to Hillsboro in 1968, where he attended Hillsboro High School and married Ruby Reyes in 1982. He worked for the City of Hillsboro Water Department and as a Water Inspector for Rocket Utility in Red Oak.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Mendez Jr.; paternal grandparents, Francisco and Olivia Mendez; and maternal grandfather, Juan Rodriguez.
Martin is survived by his two sons, Frank and Martin Mendez Jr; three grandsons, Francisco, Carlos, and Abel Mendez, all of Whitney; mother, Angie Noyola of Whitney; brothers, Joe Mendez, and Richard Noyola of Whitney; Three sisters, Frances and Gerald Ramirez of Waco, Sally and Rolando Lozoya of Austin, TX, Tina and Jerret Gilcrease of Allen, Tx; six nephews, and one niece whom he loved very much and he is also survived by many cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Ruby Reyes Mendez was born November 01, 1960 in San Antonio. She attended Grand Prairie High School and married Martin Mendez in 1982. She worked for Town Square Furniture and The Visiting Angels.
She was preceded in death by her father, Anselmo Reyes; mother, Josephine Garza; and paternal grandmothers, Maria Guzman and Severa Reyes Morales.
Ruby is survived by her two sons, Frank and Martin Mendez Jr; three grandsons, Francisco, Carlos, and Abel Mendez all of Whitney; two sisters, Rebecca and Pedro Castaña of Dallas and Rachel and Danny Garcia of La Coste; three brothers, Roland Reyes of Floresville, Richard Reyes of La Coste, and Richard Calderon of La Coste; and eight nephews and eight nieces. She is also survived by many cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed.
