Marvin Holland

Marvin P. Holland, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Pastor Mike Hailey of Hallmark Baptist Church in Fort Worth officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, at the funeral home.

Marvin was born September 21, 1923 in Hill County the son of William and Lula (Hammonds) Holland. During WWII, he served in the U. S. Army, 473rd Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He was assigned to Normandy and later to Munich, Germany. Marvin was assigned to Food Service as a 20 men field cooker. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. On November 1, 1946 he married Frances Poteet. They moved to Hillsboro 10 years ago. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and former member of Hallmark Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

For 28 years, he was employed by A & P Grocery. In 1975, he went to work for the States of Texas, Mental Health and Mental Retardation (MHMR). He retired on January 1, 1985.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Holland of Hillsboro; son, Jimmy Holland of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Bryan and Angela Holland; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
