Marvin Stock, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, June 25, 2018, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Ouseph Thekkumthala as celebrant. Burial will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery near Aquilla. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
Born January 5, 1931, in Shiner, he was the son of Edmund H. and Margueritte (Kloesel) Stock. He grew up in Shiner and graduated from St. Ludemilla-Catholic Academy in Shiner. Marvin joined the United States Army on September 12, 1952, during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the Company B 808th Engineering AVN Battalion as Corporal on June 11, 1954. During his service time, he earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. On January 27, 1957, Marvin was united in marriage to Doris Kotrla.
For 38 years, he worked as a superintendent for Austin Bridge Company. Following his retirement in 1992, he spent his time working cattle on his 22 acre ranch in Peoria. In his spare time, Marvin enjoyed gardening, watching old westerns, and spending time with friends and family. His true passion was deer hunting at the deer camp in LaVaca County. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Doris in 2014; daughter, Connie Taylor in 2016; brother, Elo Stock; and two sisters, Aminda Seger and Georgia Mae Hluchanek.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Stock of Dallas; two grandchildren Brandy Cook and husband, Rickey, of Aquilla and Gregory Don Taylor, Jr. and wife, Wendy, of Haskell; four great-grandchildren, Madison Garcia and husband, Hunter, and Sidney and Caleb Cook, all of Aquilla, and Kannyn Taylor of Haskell; two great-great grandchildren, Kaysen and Graysen Garcia of Aquilla; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
