Mary Ray Adkins, 80, of Brandon passed away Thursday afternoon, December 1, 2016, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Mary was born August 29, 1936 in Freer to Wallace and Rachel (Cox) Moffett. At a young age, she moved with her family to Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1954. On October 30, 1954, Mary was united in marriage to Ray Glenn Adkins, Sr. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2007.

She was employed as a secretary for Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas before going to work in the accounting office at Grant Buie Hospital for several years. Mary also worked for Robin Tech and at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney in the kitchen. She also helped her husband in his business, Adkins Paint and Drywall. Hosting family gatherings and spending time with her family brought her great joy. In their spare time, Mary and Ray enjoyed going to garage sales. She also loved to read books, especially Daniel Steel books, and spoil her beloved pet companion, “Tito.” Mary was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and great-grandson, Baby Boy Alcoser.

Survivors include her two sons, Ray Adkins, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Bynum and Tony Adkins and wife, Jeanette, of West; sister, Jean Ann Cunningham of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Anthony Adkins of Round Rock, Misty Adkins of Bynum, Christopher Adkins and wife, Clarissa, of Waco, Lance Adkins of Austin, and Kevin Adkins of Dallas; nine great-grandchildren, Landon Mitchell, Steven Shaw, Caitlyn and C. J. Barberena, Kasen Adkins, Julian Dowdy, Olive Adkins, Cohen Adkins, and Branson Adkins; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorials may be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1144, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
