Mary was born March 20, 1936, in Long Beach, California to Elva Esther Beebe and Ralph Hamilton Whiting. The family later moved to the rural area near Mt. Rainer, Washington where Mary lived her childhood on the family farm.
Picking wild berries, working on the farm and tending to her baby brother filled her days. Mary graduated from Queen Anne High School of Seattle, Washington in 1953.
She then married and had two daughters. Mary later married James Leonard Allnutt on May 6, 1961, in San Diego, California, and had two more daughters. Upon her husband’s discharge from the Navy, the family relocated to Jim’s hometown of Chillicothe, Missouri.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Mary was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Dinner was always on the table by 6:00. Crafting, gardening and sewing were among her favorite activities. She took pride in making her daughters prom dresses, grandbabies blankets and many curtains.
Mary worked as a waitress in the early sixties beginning in southern California, later in Missouri and in Texas. She was a favorite among the early morning coffee crews she served over the years.
She enjoyed collecting Fiesta dinnerware, Barbie and Effanbee dolls, Depression glass, and bride and groom cake toppers.
