Mary Barnett, 93, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, October 16, 2015, at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Judge Bob McGregor and Mr. Joel Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughan Cemetery near Vaughan. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015, at the funeral home.
Mary was born in Vaughan to Arthur Lee and Lutie Wade (Crowell) Moses and reared with her older brothers, Alton Lee Moses and William Hollis Moses. After graduating from Abbott High School in 1939, she married her childhood sweetheart, Lorenza Dwight Barnett on October 5, 1940. She joined Dwight in Las Vegas, New Mexico during his duty in the Army Air Corps where she gave birth to their eldest son, Larry Dwight Barnett. The family moved back home to Vaughan where she became a proud farmer’s wife, community leader and loving mother to Larry, Garry Lynn Barnett and Linda Frances Barnett Farquhar.
With the children in school, she became a school secretary at Hillsboro High School. She then joined “The Reporter” Newspaper as clerk typist and started to make friends with Hill County citizens. Mary continued her community service when she was appointed Hill County Auditor on January 1, 1967 and retired July 31, 2003. She loved her work and appreciated the opportunity to serve under Judges Steve Latham, Bobby Dohoney and Bob McGregor. She was a devoted friend and associate of her courthouse family which was so dear to her heart. Mary and Dwight celebrated 53 years together before his passing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband and eldest son. MiMi is survived by her son, Lynn, and his wife, Sidney, and grandsons, Brandon Dwight and wife, Lori, and Joshua Eric Barnett; daughter, Linda, and her husband, Mike Farquhar, and grandsons, Michael Matthew, Monte Wade and his wife, Brandy, and great-granddaughters, Jillian Eulaine Farquhar and Allie Jean Farquhar; granddaughter, Lisa Marak, and husband, Randy; great-granddaughter, Kendall Brooke; granddaughter, Lorry Barnett Beck, and husband, Saxon; great-grandchildren, Raven Danielle Behrens and husband, Dustin, and great-great-granddaughters, Kynzie and Dawsyn; great-grandson, Tad Beck and great-great-grandsons, Jaxon and Paycen; grandson, Jessie Barnett and great-grandson, Mason Dwight Barnett; nephews, James Moses, and wife, Mary Ann, great-nephews, Scott and Keith Moses and their families, as well as, Steve and Laura Moses and great-nephew, Derick, and great-niece, Jacqueline Moses. MiMi is also survived by her adoptive son, Bill Hudson and wife, Sarah, and children, Mary, Mark, Doug and their families.
The family would like to say a special thank you for the care she was given at Country Club Retirement Community and Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney; also to Gentiva for providing hospice care. Your love for mother was so special.
