Mary Lou Falkner

Mary Lou Kellum Falkner, 90, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2016, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. A.D. Bracken and Rev. Misael Alvarado officiating. Burial will follow at Peoria Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the funeral home.

Mary Lou was born July 25, 1926 in Greenville to Ezra and Lettie Kellum. She attended school in Peoria. Later in life, one of her happiest accomplishments was receiving her GED at the age of 42. On April 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to Thomas Falkner. They became parents of one daughter, Elaine, and one son, Ronald. Mary Lou was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved God and her family. For many years, she was a faithful member of Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed teaching a Sunday school class and sharing her life with others.

Throughout her life, Mary Lou worked many different jobs. During WWII, she worked in a trunk factory while her husband served in the military. In the 1950's, she was employed as a waitress for the Blue Bonnet Café. She later was a seamstress for Woods of Texas during the 1960's and served her community through various volunteer organizations during the 1970's and 1980's. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and owning and operating a resale shop.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Thomas Falkner; two children, Elaine Burbridge and husband, Jerry, and Ronald Falkner and wife, Kim; three grandchildren, Misty Odom and husband, Jim, Matthew Falkner and wife, Shannon, and Melissa Mercer and husband, Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Darian Odom, Mayson Odom, Ellie Mercer, Ryan Mercer, and Levi Falkner; three brothers, Billy Joe Kellum, Vance Kellum, and Bruce Kellum; and many more loving relatives and friends.
