Mary Evelyn (Glenn) Gentry

Mary Evelyn Gentry, age 97, of Granbury, Texas, died peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Lake Granbury Medical Center.  Family graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro.

Mary was born November 11, 1925, in Palestine, Texas, to Dan and Lillie Belle Glenn.  She graduated from high school in Palestine and married the love of her life, Emmett Gentry in 1946, with whom she was married for sixty-three years.  They had three children, Peggy, David, and Mark and enjoyed many travels across the United States with the children.  They continued traveling together after the children were grown and were especially fond of viewing fall foliage splendor and spring wildflowers in many parts of the country.  After Emmett died in 2010, Mary loved her travels to Hawaii and Alaska.

Mary enjoyed reading, quilting, puzzles, collecting elephant figures and she was an avid golfer until she was eighty-eight years old.  She helped establish the Hillsboro Country Club Women’s Golf Association and served as historian.  She moved to Granbury in 2017 and was a resident at Aviva, formerly Quail Park Senior Living Community. There she formed close friendships with other residents and staff and enjoyed many social activities.

In addition to her husband Emmett, Mary was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Lafayette Glenn.  She is survived by all three children, their families, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Mary is also survived by many other extended family members and friends and neighbors over the years.

Her family would like to thank the multi-talented team of kind caregivers, therapists, activity and nursing staff who have helped her maintain her strength and stamina and good humor through her later years.

Mary and Emmett Gentry were active members in the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro, Texas, and they supported the Presbyterian Children’s Home and Services.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home and Services or to a charity of your choice.
